My philosophy is simple, what you need when you need it!
Acute Care: The initial goal is obvious: eliminate your pain and get you functioning again. This will often be accomplished within the first few visits, depending upon the extent and history of your condition.
Corrective Care: When the pain is eliminated or significantly reduced, the focus will shift to correcting the distortions found in your body. What we call corrective care focuses on making more permanent corrections to your body. The benefits of corrective care are numerous. The treatment will retrain and restore muscle, ligaments and spinal segments to their optimal condition. Your body will be stronger, more stable and more flexible, resulting in an improved state of function. Many patients report better sleep, more energy and improved management of stress. Your nervous system will run at maximum efficiency, enhancing the function of every system in your body.
Maintenance Care: Once you have achieved the maximum level of correction and stability, many patients choose to maintain their health with occasional check-ups. At Scull Chiropractic, if you are happy then we are happy. You will never feel the pressure to go on a long term or minimum plan. The extent of your treatment is always your decision. I will provide the level of care you choose.
An adjustment involves the specific manipulation of vertebrae, which have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function properly. Doctors of Chiropractic spend years learning various forms of spinal analysis and corrective procedures so that they can administer specific and appropriate spinal adjustments.
Particular attention will be paid to that area of your spine where a spinal derangement or "subluxation" has been detected. The adjustment is usually given by hand and consists of applying pressure to the areas of the spine that are out of alignment or that do not move properly within their physiological range of motion.
Low Force vs. Conventional adjusting: There are several different techniques within chiropractic. Perhaps one of the more distinct differences is the level of force used to perform the manipulation. Standard chiropractic techniques involve the quick thrust of a specific vertebra for the purpose of realigning it or restoring it to it’s the proper position.
For better or worse, this is sometime referred to as “cracking” the back. This type of treatment is safe, effective and straightforward. Today, the many chiropractors use this practice and is often the foundation of many other techniques.
Luckily, there are alternatives to this type of adjusting. Some conditions respond better to a more subtle or less aggressive force. Some patients simply do not enjoy the more aggressive adjustments or prefer the lower force styles.
At Scull Sports & Family Chiropractic, we utilize several adjusting techniques that include both low force treatments and the classic adjustments more common in the profession. We will customize your treatment to your condition and your level of comfort.
Treatment will usually begin on the very first visit, depending upon the exam findings. A more detailed report will be presented upon return to the office, usually within the next 2-3 days.
